Backs and heads are not similar to the drivers. Fewer pointless detours. Less stop-start nonsense. Routes feel intentional. One of the long-haul drivers told me it was the first issue to which the map had accorded honor to my fuel tank.

Fuel savings matter at scale. A couple of kilometres can hardly be calculated as a road to go by. Multiplied a hundred times by dozens car after car, day by day and you will find the figures smiling too, soon. Less idling helps too. Instead of simed, engines are heard.

The same is with maintenance. The vehicles that are used purposefully are not so damaged. Tyres last longer. Brakes complain less. Downtime shrinks. Schedules hold.

Interestingly enough, things are also interesting as far as visibility is concerned. The view of live movement is opposite to the wish to be informed by the managers. Delays surface early. Changes are made prior to the making of calls by the customers. The visions are the way of taming the noise that cannot be controlled.

Expectations of the customers are continuously increasing. On-the-fly tracking is no longer a possibility. Accurate ETAs matter. The route optimisation software consumes reality and not conjecture to come up with the promises. The extent of confidence is also increased since you do not have shaky delivery periods.

There’s humour in the shift. One of the logistical managers had charged them that their fleet was not able to freestyle because of the software. Every route now has logic. Each kilometre is its own pay.

This does not assume the glamorous screens and requires the power to complete the logistics and transport. It means control. Calm. Unabnormal days of a business that do not have them. The route optimisation software provides it with the silent approach, route-by-route, load-by-load approach.
